Mom's Easy Homemade Chili

Chili is a very personal food dish, have you ever noticed that? Everyone eats it a little differently. I like it with a slice of cornbread at the bottom of the bowl, pour the chili over it and then add a little cheese on top and let it melt. Others like cornbread on the side or like to add some hot sauce, Fritos, sour cream, etc. It’s a lot like tacos. People like it how they like it.
Regardless how you like to top your chili, I have the BEST chili recipe and you can choose to top it however you like!
Now, you have to be in the right mood for chili, you can’t have it just on any day, it needs to be a day when the weather starts to turn and there’s a slight chill in the air. The skies are overcast, and it’s the perfect day to watch football or a movie on the couch… that’s the best day for this chili. Always hits the spot and the best part is, it’s SO easy!

Mom’s Easy Homemade Chili
2 Cans Bush’s Chili Beans
2 Cans Diced Tomatoes
1 Yellow Onion (chopped)
1 lb Ground Beef
1 Bay Leaf
Salt/Pepper (+Spices if you so desire)
Pour the beans, tomatoes, and onion in a large pot and on low-medium heat. In the meantime brown the beef in a large skillet and drain. Add the beef to the pot with the remaining ingredients and let simmer for 1.5 hours while stirring occasionally. That’s it! Isn’t that so easy?! I’ve had lots of chili from restaurants and other family recipes, but this one takes the cake each time. Its simplicity is what makes it so good!
You are now free to top it however you like! The rest is your creation.
(The bay leaf is to help pick who is going to do the dishes! A little tradition we have in my family 🙂  Your chili is ladled out and whoever finds the bay leaf in their bowl is the one who gets to clean up.)
